My Fat Little Rule Book

(Photo taken from www.JacquieSomerville.com)

Thanks to Brendan Bailey PR and author Jacquie Somerville I was please to attend the book launch of "My Fat Little Rule Book" at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia. In a nutshell, this clever and incredibly informed read describes how a fashionista reconciles with becoming a foodie! This is something I'm sure most of us have struggled with. How do we shed those unwanted pounds while still looking fabulous in our sought out trends??

This is not your typical "weight loss" book with rules on how to lose the weight and also lose a part of your soul in the process but rather Jacquie's personal experiences and mantras on what she did day to day - how it worked for her, and how it can work for you. Trust me, I saw her - the woman's a statuesque toned gazelle!!

Her mantras and experiences go much further than weight loss, it applies to all aspects of your life and how important it is to set goals. You can apply her words to just about anything going on.

It was such a pleasure to meet Jacquie and hear her read snippets from her new book - the book should hit shelves in just a few weeks but if you want to be one of the first to grab a copy Jacquie is giving away 10 free copies to the first 10 people to join her online community - click HERE for more deets!

Although I'm not in the market to currently loose weight (my tonsil surgery did that for me - hello Vegas pool side!) I can't wait to read "My Fat Little Rule Book" and learn some mantras and ideas that can help in other areas of life!

Dont walk, but run! To the East Side Culture Crawl

On Friday night Eric and I attended one of the stops from the East Side Culture Crawl. For those that are unfamilliar it is an event held once a year throught Vancouver where studios will open their doors to showcase all of the latest talent from painting, sculpture, woodwork, accessories and many more. Each studio ranges from small with 5 artists to a 4 floor warehouse jam packed.

This year with 3 days, over 70 studios around Vancouver and 361 artists it was a must see, although we only had the energy for one studio - it was more than enough!

Our stop was 1000 Parker Street. Below is the artwork from my 3 favorite artists of the evening; Bradley Harms, Carla Tak and Noel Hodnett.

The Culture Crawl is held from November 18th - November 20th so make sure you attend it's last day to take in the artistic culture of Vancouver!

Standing Armed - An Afternoon Of Shopping

Yesterday Lyndsey and myself spent our afternoon doing what we would love to do every single afternoon. We shared a one on one shopping experience with the Lindsay Walsh, designer of Standing Armed in her Studio on East Hastings!

Lindsay started Standing Armed in 2009 and after a 2 year hiatus living in London, England she decided it was time to get back into the game. She debuted her label with a F/W11 collection and recently showcased her SS12 collection in September.

As Lyndsey tried on her Fall/Winter 2011 collection it was apparent to us that this designer is extremely talented and on our list of favorite designers! Everything from the flow, style, cut, fabrications and colors made us feel beautiful and super feminine and if there wasn't more people that needed to use the room to change...we would have been there trying on the entire collection.

One amazing bonus was that we also got to try on the SS12 collection even though she only had runway samples. I immediately fell in love with a silk button down tank that will be made in black, (so excited!)

Lyndsey had some troubles deciding what she wanted but we all agree that she made the best choice and went with the purple silk dress.

Thank you to Lindsay and her mother for putting together a wonderful trunk sale, we will be back soon!

If you're interested in shopping the collection, Lindsay will be having another Trunk Sale today from 5pm - 7pm at 9 East Hastings Street, Vancouver. You can RSVP to lwalsh@standingarmed.com.

If you're unfamiliar with her collections, be sure to check out her site.

Crème de la Crème Grand Wedding Showcase

The lights were dimmed, the flowers were bright and overcome with beauty...the dresses...oh my the dresses! Crème de la Crème was here! Lyndsey, Candace, Victoria from Dash of Blonde and I had a fantastic time at the wedding showcase and the swag we left with was just the topping on the 5 tier cake.

Hundreds of people shimmied and shaked their way through the many vendors that offered their services and sweets while champagne was sipped and photos taken from all angles (mine included!).

The hit of the evening – the Ooh la la fashion show courtesy of Bisou Bridal and Blush Bridal. One of a kind dresses floated down the runway including Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa and the mother of all bridal couture – Vera Wang!

It was great to see familiar faces and fell in love with a one of a kind necklace seen on neckline of The Doctor’s Closet created by Elsa Corsi – I am officially starting my Elsa Corsi collection, and you should to!

Overall it was such a special day spent with friends, tons of memories made, and tons of ideas for my wedding to be! Thank you to Countdown Events and the Crème de la Crème team for putting on such a wonderful event!

Vancouver Fashion Week: Day 3

Yesterday was another great night at VFW with another line up of creative designers! This time I was only able to stay for 2 shows but believe me, with the shows that they put on it was more than enough for the whole entire night! D.W. wowed us with a show stopping live performance with a crew of studded, ripped and acid washed denim jackets that walked down the runway - the performance stopped and a runway show began!

Di Designs gave us a wide variety of sperates, dresses and swimwear! With a colorful pallet and sparkly shoes my eyes were full from all the candy!

Here are some of my favorite looks from the two designers:
DW - Edgy, dark and super flirty

Di Designs - Gold monokini?? I LOOOVVEEEE :)

Vancouver Fashion Week: Day 2

Yesterday Eric and I scurried over to Masik Studios in Vancouver to watch the Spring Summer 2012 runway shows for Vancouver Fashion Week. Running 5 days long with 50 designers you're sure to see a collection that you must add to your wardrobe!

I attended the shows as media not only for The-Unprecedented but also for OY&CO with live tweets and photos as the girls walk down the runway. You can follow me through the shows on their twitter account HERE.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay too long but was lucky enough to see the first 4 designers show their collections - I just loved the creativity they each had with color, cut and style!

(Club Monaco top, Zara skirt, H&M blazer, Charlotte Russe booties, French Connection clutch, Rings - Matt&Nat, Aldo, gifted, Belt - gifted)

Here are a few of my favorite looks from each:
Byron Abad - Geometric lines accent solid hues.

Mattea Goldstein - Neutral colors with cut out designs.

Laurie Jacouty - Classic, tailored, streamlined neutrals.

Nicole Barron - Pop color prints with a flowly elegance.

**Bare with me on these photos - I'm still figuring out my camera!!

Jacqueline Conoir / Jac SS 12

Tuesday night Lyndsey, Tessa (from Belle Epoque) and I, saw the first look at the Spring Summer 2012 collection for Jacqueline Conoir & the contemperary line, Jac. Rozemerie Cuevas, the designer of both lines did such a great job designing looks that all types of women can wear, from a series of structured suits, bold pops of purple and pinks and even an array of prints from animal to watercolor. Jac was more my type of collection, it carried more of an edge, creative cuts and a neutral pallete.

I'm surprised I didn't get whiplash from rapidly turning my head towards the girls to say "I LOVE THAT" or "I NEED WANT THAT",

My giftcard will definetly be well spent! A big thank you to all of the ladies that put the show together! (more photos to come :) )

Here are my favorite looks from the Jacqueline Conoir collection:

Paul Wong - Immanent

Last night I had the opportunity (thanks @oveyyeung) to attend the exhibit for Canadian photographer Paul Wong at the Winsor Gallery in South Granville. Paul is a multimedia artist who showcases photographs and video shorts to portray life and movement, and this was very much apparent in his newest collection titled "Immanent".

With 12 pieces of his work around the gallery it was hard to choose my favorite. However, "Full Moon Drawings" did stand out to me the most but I couldn't grasp the story behind it. Paul was kind enough to explain to me in depth his story behind shooting the images and quite the story it was! During a trip to Nicaragua on the night of a full moon Paul snapped a photo with the result being a lightening type strike. He snapped many and chose the 9 he liked the most. This was shown in 2 seperate pieces and 1 large installation.

Girl Time

I always cherish the moments I have with my girls, especially since the times I get to see them is a long and far between. I finally got to see them during Eva's birthday lunch at our favorite sushi spot Akasaka!! Among our adventurous sushi rolls we did the usual gab that I'm certain annoyed everyone around us - great movies, stupid boys, embarrassing moments, shopping and Ryan Gossling!!!! I can't wait to see them again soon :)

What I'm wearing: Club Monaco "Loren" top, Club Monaco "Lina" pants, Aldo sandals, Alexander Wang "Millie" bag, Club Monaco sunglasses, Guess men's watch, DIY bracelets
