News, Videos & Events

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, it's 11 days until I head off to sunny Las Vegas and I'm counting down to the hours and minutes!

Today's post is filled with updates on fashion topics, upcoming events and a few videos!

Let's get down to the nitty gritty...

IN THE NEWS
Over 1 week ago it was announced that Fashion Television has ceased production after 27 years. It is truly devastating to know that the show that had inspired my education and career in the Fashion industry is no longer. We will all miss Jeanne Beker and her wit as she literally ran from show to show and updated us on designers, photographers, artists, models and everyone in between. Thank you for the inspiration FT!

big city, bigger dreams

You know the saying "small town, big dreams"? Well, that doesn't apply to me. I grew up in a city of 600,000 people - most with big dreams. When I was younger I wanted to grow up and be everything including the kitchen sink and sure enough I did everything I didn't say I wanted to do.

As I'm getting older I have dreams of being in New York, how I get there I do not know, what I do there I do not know. What I do know is that I will get there. What do I want to do now with my life? Basically dress people in fabulous clothes and make jewellery. It's aaalll happening.

I didn't come from a small town, I came from a big city - and I have bigger dreams.

As I digress...

The lovely Alexander Liang and Paisley Smith from Kenton Magazine are so special to feature me and Jeremy Szafron in their latest vid from the Le Chateau Style Event! xoxo

I just recently finished a new chain bracelet that I will definitely be making in more colors. It's the perfect addition to most arm parties and adds a chic touch to all outfits! I'm definitely thinking about starting an Etsy shop for my bracelets and paintings...what do you think?!

(moms vintage chain, BCBG, moms vintage chain, my DIY braclet)

PS. Did anyone catch the Victoria Secret Fashion Show?! Can you say AMAZING?!?! Oh and the 2.5 million dollar bra, no bigs. I got one of those.

Page One: A Year Inside The New York Times

Last week I enjoyed the company of my friend Kaitey as we had lunch at The Lamplighter and then headed to Tinsletown to see "Page One: A Year Inside The New York Times". I will admit, I do not read the newspaper as often as I should but I do make the effort (it's more accessible on my phone) and I am not well aware of the decline of the newspaper industry. "Page One" creates a clear picture in your mind of this decline and shows the process in which they go through to stay afloat of this world saturated with online news updates.

This film allows you to take a too close for comfort look into what it takes to create headlines while working in a competitive and stressful environment.

no explanation needed, just watch.

Act da fool - Proenza Schouler

I like the way paper bags look.
I like when a ballon gets all fucked up & pops & everyone gets scared.
I used to called my dad Saint Nick cause he’s fat as hell & he always walking arround with a red hat on.
I belive that earth is a big ball of shit. That's why the dinosaur died out. And everyone gonna die soon or later. That’s why I love cigarettes so much. I hope I don’t die for a long time though I still got things I wanna look at.
This town stinks, most people here don’t even have names. everyone just passing though. Fuck this town!.

Sometimes I can spin up to an hour, staring an a bird on a tree. I wish I was that bird & I could just fly away. I like the way animals hang out in the trains & parking lots.

My friends & I are a gang of fools. We can act like we’re animals, we can do some messed up shit. We act like little babes sometimes. Is us against the world. One day we got so drunk, I thought I heard God speaking to me saying ‘’if you don’t stop, then I’m gonna kick your stupid ass up & down this sidewalk’’. ‘’ How can God gotta be so bad violent’’ I thought. I ain’t gonna church no more, church can suck it.

I think the stars hold the secrets, the stars being shining at night, bright as hell. They say ‘’look at me, look up here, I’m up here’’ they call out ‘’We love you girls, we really love you, we will never leave you, just be good to one and other, you can make it out this dead end town. Fuck everyone else, the world want us to be happy. And I trust the stars, the stars ain’t ever lie yet. Every night they say the same thing. The stars ain’t never gonna leave us.-

it took 5 dress makers and 4 days. phillip lim.

My friend Ami showed me this video. I can honestly say that it has changed the way I look at the fashion around me, and what it takes to create exquiste pieces.

Derek Lam + eBay

Amazing! Derek Lam and online bidding war - eBay, have teamed together to put on an auction of Derek's best work. Fashionistas all around can bid on the looks which are priced at $125 to $250. To see the looks go to www.dereklam.ebay.com

Over the Rainbow

Apparently Marc decided to street scout as well as use models from agencies, which always adds a little extra to his shows. This video from MOD TV shows the models backstage working with the makeup artists to perfect their looks. The show was set in a large cardboard box, with everything surrounding it made entirely out of cardboard.

He would.

Alexander Wang Spring 2009

I'm just big a fan as the next person when it comes to Alexander Wang, his designs inspired part of my Fall 08 wardrobe. Now that we're all living in "tough times" i must flip through my closets and see what i can wear for Spring 09 while repeating in my head "WWAWD?" - What Would Alexander Wang Design?" His Spring 09 collection gives me what i want - a monochromatic scheme of simplicity hit with value intensities of hot pink, and aqua blue in a rough and tough ready to wear outfitt. Grade A

Alexander McQueen Spring 2009

As we all know...McQueen is seen as the "FASHION GOD". Was he able to live up to all his hype with Spring 09? Definitely! With the theme of animals and the planet, his runway show was understated and his garments were just right. Anyone who can make a glitter jumpsuit look chic with a deep neckline deserves a high grade in my book. Grade: A+
